Full country name: Kingdom of Thailand
Visas: Most visitors can stay for 30 days without a visa. Check with your embassy.
When to Go:
Thailand is a great destination anytime of the year if you're a bit flexable. I have often travelled to Thailand in the rainy season and saw very little rain. Often if its raining on one side of the country the other side is okay. However Thailand's monsoons arrive around July and last into November, you can get some extremly heavy rain during these times, not good if you have a short beach vacation! It is drier and cooler(still hot though), from November to mid-February, followed by much higher temperatures from March to June.
Thailand offers an unlimited choice of things to do, so no matter what your thing is Thailand has something for you.

Malaria, Japanese B encephalitis and Dengue fever. All are spread by mosquito bites, so in high risk areas take extra precautions, such as malaria pills, mosquito nets, mosquito repellant or better yet....Don't Get Bit!!!.
The best time to visit is from Febraury to March when the weather is perfect and the beaches are at their finest.
The peak seasons are August, November, December, February and March, with secondary peak months in January and July. If you want to avoid the crowds and to take advantage of discounted rooms and low-season rates, you should consider travelling during the least crowded months (April, May, June, September and October). Even during peak months, if you simply avoid some of the most popular destinations (eg, Chiang Mai and all islands and beaches), you can avoid the crowds.
Koh Phi Phi, Thailand
If you want a beach vacation, Thailand truly has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, such as Koh Samui and Koh Phi Phi just to name a couple.
If you want to take just a few more steps into the water there is some great scuba diving in Thailand. In the spring Koh Tao is famous for its whale sharks (also some of the cheapest scuba diving in the world), and on the other side of Thailand, the Andaman Sea has some of the best diving in the world.
If water sports are your thing all the major resort islands have para-sailing, jet skis, and many offer fishing trips.
Koh Phi Phi in the south of Thailand is not only one of the most beautiful islands in the world, it also is home to some of the worlds best rock climbing, attracting both beginners and experienced climbers.
In the north of Thailand you can experience the Thai Hill Tribes and go hill tribe trekking, often using elephants and rafts as transpotation. Most of the hill tribe trekking leaves out of Chang Mai. Chang Mai also has an incredible number of buddhist temples. Thailand in general is rich in beautiful temples and ancient buddhist ruins. You can experience this when you first arrive in Thailand, since chances are you will be arriving in Bangkok, which has some very impressive buddhist temples including the Grand Palace and Wat Po as well as Wat Arun just across the river.
For my part I could go on and on about Thailand. The Thai people are extremely friendly and welcoming, the beaches are stunning, there is a plethora of adventure activities to do and the kicker is that in Thailand you can do it all without spending a fortune. In fact as far as value for money Thailand would have to rate as one of the top destinations in the world. You can get a great place on the beach for a week(or two) for what you'd pay for a day many other places.
As far as food goes, no one does it like the Thai's.....excellent food at a bargin price.
If you plan to do nay other Asian travel, Thailand is a great gateway. You will find excellent prices on flights, buses, trains, boats......just head down to Khao San Road in the Banglamphu district of Bangkok and you'll just have arrived in the center of the backpacking universe!
I have spent my lifetime travelling and have travelled to 132 countries and counting and as an overall travel destination Thailand is hard to top. Thailand is an incredible travel destination waiting for you to discover.....and trust me, once you've been there you will want to go back again and again!!!
